Overall it was fantastic! Cues both days, with a few blue spots to keep things interesting. Saturday saw 4-5 knots (max 8 or so) to near 7000 ft, Sunday to 6000 ft. No wind on Saturday, but up to 20 mph westerly on Sunday. Beautiful visibility and very comfortable temperatures. The operations went great. We had 8 competitors each day. Fernando Silva could only make it for Saturday, but on Sunday Leo came with a brand new JS1. He started late and got to maneuver through weakening conditions with passage of a front. So if you come late, better have a JS1! Your one Cirrus in the competition (boo) flew decent speeds, but on Saturday came in 12 minutes short (2.5 hrs minimum), which costs dearly. Like 10% off. On Sunday I added 30 minutes to the time (2 hrs minimum), which is also not the smartest, but the upwind leg just took a pretty darn long time. So timing is everything, as usual. How the champs come in 30s after MT every time is beyond me. -Dieter ---------------------------------- Short version, two excellent race days. Had 7 in A class, 1 B class. First day was the stronger and had more clouds marking thermals. From memory. Task was LGC South Start - Windrift (15 mi circle) - LGC (3 mi) - Aurburn (15 mi circle) - LGC. Several large blue holes during the day. Fernando won the day by 2 points. Tim McGowin (2EZ) took 2nd. Joe Reeves completed the B class task, taking 1st in B (came all the way from Savannah - that alone deserves a prize). Sunday we had 7 in A class, 1 in B class. Thermals were not as strong and much more blue after a weak front passed. Task was LGC South Start, Meadowlark (15 mi), Fredonia Field (10 mi? across the lake), Pine Mountain (5 mi) and LGC finish. Have not heard who won. Both Tim's, Chris and Dieter were in the running.Tim L took the approach of running south from the Meadowlark area and getting on top of the Pine Mountain ridge. He had much better cloud markers which he followed over toward Fredonia. I assume he then backtracked to Pine Mountain before final glide to LGC. I heard Chris got stuck in a hole in that area that slowed him down a bit. Joe won B class again.
