Cordele was a hoot, 2 completely different days. Saturday was 60% cloud cover at 3800msl, and there was a cirrus shield over that that keep it from exploding. [Always threatening to end the day, but it kept going] So the clouds were everywhere and lift under almost every one, and some of it was strong. This made up for the low cloud bases and we had fast speeds. 55hmph for 3500AGL is great in my book! Sunday was an "infinite cloudbase", as blue as it gets [and free of gnats]. The front was passing in the morning and a strong north wind blowing - one report was 25kts at 3000msl. So instead of wimping out we called a MAT using the Northern most Turnpoint [we did not force DS to take the K-6 downwind - that was his own decision!]. The lift was generally strong but only to 4500msl, unless you flew in the sweet smoke of a field fire. We tagged 7 knots into and out of Perry. You topped out at 5600msl or so, and then had ~1100 of altitude to glide off before re-entering the convective layer. What a blast. Then my final glide put me racing the Saturn Blimp back to Cordele. DS landed about the same time, as Larry's shot shows. September in Cordele was great, the weather was cool, instead of the intense heat we are used to in June. However the fields were to be avoided as they were not plowed and friendly - lots of Cotton shrubs. Thanks again to Dave for making all the arrangements.
